Job description:
Postdoctoral Research Associate Direct Dark Matter Search The University of Alabama
The University of Alabama invites applications for two postdoctoral research associate positions to work on the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment.
The experiment is currently under construction; commissioning and data taking is expected to begin in late 2019. The main focus of the first position is development of tools for online and off-line data processing and event reconstruction/identification, and the main focus of the second position is background control. In the longer term, the successful applicants are expected to participate in detector commissioning and operations and make significant contributions to physics data analyses. This may entail travel and extended stays at SURF where LZ is being constructed.
A Ph.D. in experimental particle or nuclear physics or related field is required.
We are seeking to fill the first position as soon as possible, and the preferred starting date for the second position is July 1, 2018. Each appointment would be for one year initially; thereafter the appointment would be extended annually, contingent on satisfactory performance and continued funding, to a maximum of 3 years.
Applications, comprised of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and names and contact information for three professional references, should be submitted online at: https://facultyjobs.ua.edu/postings/41895. The cover letter should highlight how the applicant's experience and interests relate to one or both of the available positions.
Applications will continue to be accepted for each position until filled.
For more information, contact Jerry Busenitz (busenitz@ua.edu).
The University of Alabama is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
