Job description:
The experimental astroparticle physics group at the University of Zurich invites applications for a postdoctoral position funded by the ERC-Advanced Grant Project Xenoscope.Xenoscope will focus on research towards a multi-ton liquid xenon observatory (DARWIN) for astroparticle physics.
The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in the R&D projects conducted at the University of Zurich and in the construction and operation of a series of liquid xenon time projection chamber prototypes. The astroparticle physics group is involved in direct dark matter detection with XENON and DARWIN, in neutrinoless double beta decay searches with GERDA, and operates several small-scale liquid xenon and argon detectors for R&D purposes.
A recent PhD in experimental astroparticle physics or experimental nuclear and particle physics is required. Applicants are expected to have a solid background in one of the above fields, both in hardware and in data analysis. Experience with noble liquid techniques, cryogenic systems, low-background counting, statistical data analysis and Monte Carlo simulations is of advantage. The appointment is initially for two years with the possibility of renewal.
Applications must be submitted to Mrs. Regina Schmid, Physics Department of the University of Zurich, Winterthurerstr. 190, CH-8057 Zurich, Switzerland; email: regina@physik.uzh.ch. They must contain the following documents: a cover letter, including a statement of research experience and interest, a curriculum vitae and a list of publications, as well as copies of the final university degrees. Three letters of recommendation must be arranged for to be sent to the same address.
The application deadline is February 28, 2018. Applications received after that date will be considered until the position is filled.
