Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:ILC
Deadline: 2016-07-15
Region: Europe

Job description:
The ILC group of the Institut de Physique Nucléaire de Lyon is strongly involved in the preparation of the experiments for the future leptonic colliders and more particularly in the ILD experiment of ILC. The group has developed, within the CALICE international collaboration, a new generation of high granularity semi-digital hadronic calorimeters (SDHCAL) and a prototype of such a detector of 1,3 m3 was built and successfully tested. The main goal of this newly developed technology is to improve on the energy resolution of the jets  produced in the e+ e- collisions by applying the Particle Flow Algorithms (PFA). In order to check and improve the performance of this calorimeter, the study of several physics channels using the simulation of the ILD detector with SDHCAL as the hadronic calorimeter have been initiated.
The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in the SDHCAL optimization studies with the goal to measure precisely Higgs boson characteristics in physics channels such as   e+ e- to Z H.   Hadronic final states, i.e. bosons decaying into the hadrons, are of particular interest.  He/She will follow in this framework the progress achieved in this field by the LHC experiments.
The postdoc will also participate in the beam tests of the SDHCAL taking place at CERN either in standalone  or in combined mode with other detectors like the high-granularity silicon-based electromagnetic calorimeter and will contribute to the data analysis with the goal to make the description of the SDHCAL and its performance in the simulation as realistic as possible.
Finally the postdoc will take part in the PFA development to which the Lyon group contributes actively.

The position is for three years and starts in October-November 2016.

ps
The candidate is asked to provide at least two reference letters.
