Job description:

Position opened: Staff Scientist in Hall D at Jefferson Lab

Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab), located in Newport News, VA,USA, is a scientific laboratory centered around a high-intensity, continuous wave electron beam with the energy up to 12 GeV, which provides a unique capability for nuclear and particle physics research. The lab is managed for the Department of Energy by Jefferson Sciences Associates.

Hall D/GlueX is a new facility for experiments with a high-intensity linearly polarized photon beam. The initial physics program includes the search for gluonic excitations in the spectra of light mesons and precision measurements in Primakoff reactions. The commissioning of the facility has been successfully completed and the first physics run is scheduled for the Fall of 2016.

The scientific staff is supporting the operations of the facility and is taking part in the scientific program of the Lab, together with the external user community. The successful candidate is expected, along with contributing to the maintenance and operations of the facility, to take a lead role in the data analysis of the experiment GlueX and in producing scientific results. Taking part in the further development of the physics program for the facility is strongly encouraged.

A Ph.D. in experimental nuclear, particle or high-energy astrophysics is required. The successful candidate should be a proven expert in hadronic physics analysis and have extensive experience with large scale detectors. Expertise in Partial Wave Analysis is highly desirable.
