Experiments:DUNE
Deadline: 2016-04-22
Region: North America
Job description:
The experimental particle physics group at the College of William and Mary invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate to work on research and development for the DUNE long baseline oscillation experiment and data analysis on the MINERVA neutrino interactions experiment. Both are part of a growing Liquid Argon TPC research program, consisting of the currently operating LARIAT test beam experiment, the proposed CAPTAIN-MINERVA experiment (a 5 ton LAr TPC integrated with MINERVA), and near term research and development for the DUNE experiment with an emphasis on the ProtoDUNE testbeam experiment at CERN. In MINERVA the group is responsible for determining the neutrino flux, and for directing the inclusive final states scattering group. In LARIAT the group is responsible for the trigger and contributes to DAQ development and data analysis. The William and Mary group also has leadership roles in the sterile neutrino analysis on MINOS+, the electron neutrino appearance analysis conducted by NOVA, and is contributing to hadron production measurements with the NA61 apparatus at CERN. Depending on fit, a portion of the successful applicant’s research portfolio could potentially include one of the these additional experiments.
Applicants must have a PhD in experimental particle, astro-particle, or nuclear physics. Experience in programming, data analysis and/or hardware is expected. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct research with substantial self-direction, independence and initiative. The applicant will ideally be based at Fermilab and will take a lead role in DUNE, MINERVA and the LAr R&D program. To apply, applicants should submit a statement of research interests, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference to the recruitment site: https://jobs.wm.edu/postings/23966. In case of questions, contact Mike Kordosky (makordosky@wm.edu).
Review of applicants will begin on April 22 and will continue until the position is filled. The appointment will be made for one year with the intention of continued funding for up to 3 years. The College of William and Mary is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. The College of William and Mary conducts background checks on applicants for employment.
