Job description:

The Cornell High-Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) in Ithaca, New York, USA has an opening for a Staff Scientist (Research Associate) interested in materials studies using x-rays in the physical, biophysical, or engineering sciences, to serve as beamline scientist supporting visiting users of CHESS facilities, and to actively contribute to developing next-generation synchrotron light source technology and techniques. The successful candidate should have proven ability to carry out a personal research program and establish diverse scientific collaborations, and a strong record of hands-on experience building and maintaining x-ray based experimental instruments and x-ray data collection and analysis. A PhD in any area of physical or engineering sciences and at least 2 years of post-PhD experimental experience is required. A solid publication record, fluency in the English language, and excellent communication skills are essential. Appointments are for three years and are renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Located on an Ivy League university campus in picturesque upstate New York, CHESS serves a world-wide community of materials researchers, biologists, chemists, physicists, and engineers. It is a National Science Foundation-supported National User Facility dedicated to novel studies in the materials, biological, and engineering sciences and to developing novel x-ray technology and has a strong service and team-oriented environment.
