Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) is a world leader in fundamental science research in the public interest. Berkeley Lab’s archives and records functions help to maintain the history of that work, and our Research Services functions help to enable it through access to world-class library resources.

Berkeley Lab has an immediate opening for an Information Resources Manager to lead the Archives and Records Team and the Research Services Team to provide the day-to-day management and strategic vision for both teams.

Specific Responsibilities:
Supervise the Research Services and Archives and Records teams:
* Hire excellent staff and perform performance management and career mentoring. Ensure staff is meeting goals, provide feedback and guidance for continuous growth and improvement. Provide appropriate and relevant development and training opportunities.
* Manage the relationship with the University of California (UC) Berkeley Libraries and the Research Services team, overseeing librarian support services, and helping to ensure that the library needs of our scientific staff are satisfied.
* Direct the Archives and Records team, to include managing the team’s workload, interpreting policy requirements, working with Department of Energy stakeholders, and defining goals and strategies for the team.
* Primary lead for Department of Energy (DOE) and UC’s open access publishing requirements and tracking, supporting development of systems and processes to ensure open access compliance.
* Represent library and publication management interests in bibliographic and bibliometric data projects, including ongoing consideration of researcher profile tools like VIVO and metrics services. Manage projects within these areas and develop comprehensive assessment methodologies to choose between alternatives and monitor performance and impact.
* Functional owner of the institutional repository of Berkeley Lab’s publications, publications.lbl.gov. Coordinate and supervise ad hoc requests from scientific staff and laboratory leadership to provide information about publication records, impact, etc.
* Liaison to DOE stakeholders around issues relating to publications, library, and archives and records.
* Collaborate with scientific divisions and other service providers in IT to develop strategic and tactical plans to continue to improve the portfolio of services provided by the group.
* Supervise the compliance requirements associated with the archives and records program, including making well informed judgments about retention schedules, executing document holds, coordinating with DOE and National Archives stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 10 years experience in a library or archives/records setting.
* Minimum of 3 years of group or project management relevant to the position responsibilities.
* Demonstrated ability to lead a team-oriented organization and attract, retain and develop a talented and diverse staff. Ability to foster positive work relationships and resolve technical and personal conflicts with diplomacy and tact.
* Proven judgment in complex situations relating to access to records and information.
* Ability to clearly articulate risks and benefits and make recommendations.
* Demonstrated ability to develop service models to support the continued improvement of Library and Archives & Records services.
* Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service and exceeding expectations.
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Additional Desired Qualifications:
* MA or PhD in a related field

Experience in the following:
* Managing staff in a library and/or archives/records setting
* DOE or other Federal Records requirements
* Library in a large academic environment
* Modern research management tools driven by bibliographic information, such as Elsevier Pure, Symplectic, VIVO, Harvard Profiles
