Ph.D. Position in Experimental Astroparticle Physics (AMS-02)

We are offering a Ph.D assistant position to an outstanding and highly motivated candidate to join the space experimental astroparticle physics group. Our group (Prof. Martin Pohl, Prof. Xin Wu) is strongly involved in several leading space astroparticle experiments, including the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) on board the International Space Station, the DAark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) satellite mission launched in December 2015, the gamma-ray burst polarization experiment POALR, to be launched with the Chinese spacelab Tiangong2 in 2016, and the future major cosmic ray experiment HERD on the Chinese Space Station.

The opened position is on the analysis of AMS-02 data. The Geneva group has played a major role in the construction of the AMS-02 silicon tracker, and has extensively worked on ion flux measurements, including Helium, Carbon and Oxygen. The successful candidate is expected to either extend the flux measurement to higher charges, or to initiate new analysis involving electron, positron or anti-particles. The candidate is expected to complete the Ph.D program in 4 years.

The candidate is required to have or be about to obtain a Master degree in experimental particle or astroparticle physics and is capable to carry out independent research.

Interested candidates should submit their CV, a letter of motivation, and to arrange at least two letters of recommendations to be sent, by email to Prof. Xin Wu at Xin.Wu@cern.ch. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Further inquiries can be sent to the same address above.
