Description:
The Department of Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a research staff position in our Imaging Sciences Laboratory. We seek candidates working in the field of astronomical instrumentation to work with faculty, students, and ISL staff on the definition, design, development, construction, and commissioning of advanced astronomical instruments. Desired skills include detector systems, electronics, vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, optomechanical systems, optical design and analysis, project management, software, and all aspects of the operation of astronomical instruments used for professional research in observational astronomy.

Qualifications:
Qualified applicants are required to have a Ph. D. in Astronomy or Physics, and should have at least five years experience in astronomical instrumentation development, with a broad background covering all phases of instrumentation activities including development of science and engineering requirements, optical, mechanical, and electronics design. Experience with modern astronomical detectors and detector control system principles is highly desired. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
