Experimental High Energy Physics - Student at LMU Munich (main)

Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:CERN-LHC-ATLAS
Deadline: 2016-01-31
Region: Europe

Job description:
The High Energy Physics Group at the LMU Munich invites applications for two PhD positions
in Experimental Particle Physics. We are interested in finding outstanding, strongly motivated
candidates with the drive to pursue important research topics in particle physics.

The LMU ATLAS group is contributing to the muon spectrometer and to the Grid-computing
of the experiment. We pursue an intensive physics analysis program with special emphasis on
the experimental study of top quarks, electroweak symmetry breaking and the search for signals
of physics beyond the Standard Model.

Applicants should have a (almost) completed master’s degree or equivalent degree in physics
and ideally some research experience in experimental particle physics. The successful candidates
are expected to make significant personal contributions to high-profile supersymmetry analyses.
The candidates are also expected to contribute either to the ATLAS detector (upgrade of the
muon spectrometer) or to the software for running the experiment (e.g. trigger studies, Grid-
computing).
The postion is based at the LMU Munich, frequent short-term stays as well as extended stays
at CERN and the participation in international conferences will be supported. The position is funded at 50% of the public salary scale E13 TV-L.

LMU Munich is an equal opportunity employer. The University continues to be very successful
in increasing the number of female faculty members and strongly encourages applications from
female candidates. LMU Munich intends to enhance the diversity of its faculty members. Fur-
thermore, disabled candidates with essentially equal qualifications will be given preference.

Applications should be sent by email to Mrs. Elke Grimm-Zeidler (E.GrimmZeidler@physik.uni-
muenchen.de) until 31 January 2016, and should include a curriculum vitae, copies of cer-
tificates of degrees, a letter of motivation, a link to the master or diploma thesis (if available),
and the names and contact addresses of two referees.
