Experiments:KEK-T2K
Deadline: 2016-01-15
Region: North America
Job description:
The University of Winnipeg neutrino physics group has an opening for a postdoctoral Research Associate to participate in the T2K long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment. Some extended travel to TRIUMF (Vancouver) and JPARC (Japan) will be necessary to collaborate with other T2K researchers and become familiar with operational responsibilities and analysis software.
The position will have an initial appointment of one year, and can be renewed annually for up to five years based on satisfactory performance and on the availability of continued project funding.
The Winnipeg group is involved in continued operations of the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) project for the near detector of the T2K experiment. The TPCs are currently supported by the Winnipeg, Victoria, and European groups. Three large volume TPCs were successfully completed and installed in Japan in 2009 and continue to be fully operational as key elements of the near detector tracker. The successful candidate will be involved in operation, calibration, and analysis of data from the near detector tracker, as well as contribute to the development of TPC software and physics analyses for the T2K experiment.
The Winnipeg group is also doing research and development on the mega-ton scale Hyper-Kamiokande water Cherenkov detector that is proposed as a new far detector for T2K. The applicant would primarily be responsible for near detector support and analysis, but could also become involved in Hyper-Kamiokande R&D.
Candidates should have recently completed a PhD in experimental particle or nuclear physics by the time of the appointment. Experience with gaseous detectors, with object-oriented software development, and with particle physics data analysis would be an asset. To apply, send a CV and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent to:
