Job description:
Experimental High Energy Physics
University of Toronto
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow/research associate position in the University of Toronto Experimental High Energy Physics group. The group has an active program of participation in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The group is one of those responsible for the maintenance and running of the ATLAS Forward Calorimeters and the Beam Condition Monitors. We also participate in planning for the ATLAS phase II upgrade. At present we participate in the central tracker upgrade to consist completely of solid state sensors, and have produced prototype silicon strip modules. In the forward calorimeter, we are active in design studies for several possible upgrade paths. In addition to these responsibilities, we have an active program of ATLAS physics analysis, particularly in the areas of top-quark physics, Higgs physics and searches for exotica. The position is available starting from the 1st of September 2015. It is based at the University of Toronto campus; but there will be opportunities for travel to CERN. The precise duties of the successful candidate will be defined during the hiring process. They should have an interest in detector physics, and should be familiar with LINUX, C++, and similar software tools. The successful applicant will also be expected to play a central role in the group’s efforts in physics analysis and the preparations for the ATLAS phase II upgrade. Candidates should supply a resume, a description of research interests and three letters of reference, to Ms. Crystal Liao, Department of Physics, University of Toronto, 60 St. George St., Toronto, Ontario, M5S 1A7, Canada. For information about the position send email to orr@physics.utoronto.ca. The review of applications will begin on 1st August 2015, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
In accordance with Canadian immigration regulations, this advertisement is directed in the first instance to Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Nonetheless, all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
