Job description:
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scholar position in the area of experimental astroparticle physics in the Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley. Research will focus on the direct detection of dark matter particles with the LUX and LUX-ZEPLIN experiments, as well as research and development toward future detectors using liquefied noble gases. Potential R&D topics include high voltage delivery, scintillation light collection, calibration techniques, Compton gamma-ray imaging using liquid xenon, and low-mass dark matter detection using superfluid helium. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in physics or expect to finish a degree program no later than Fall 2016, and have substantial experience in cryogenics, low backgrounds, or nuclear instrumentation techniques.
