Job description:
The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 21 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.

Within the Experiments Division, the Electronic Structure, Magnetism and Dynamics group is now seeking to recruit a:

Post-Doctoral Fellow
for the Inelastic Scattering Beamline ID20

FUNCTION

You will participate in ongoing in-house research programmes, the running of the beamline, providing support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research programme.
Beamline ID20 is dedicated to resonant and non-resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (IXS). The research programme focuses on the study of the electronic structure in a large variety of systems ranging from strongly correlated electron systems to liquids and gases.
You will be encouraged to develop your own research projects, which should exploit the unique beamline capabilities. You will also join in the effort of the team to optimize the performance of the experimental end-stations and to develop experimental techniques based on inelastic X-ray scattering. User support will provide much opportunity for collaborative work at the frontiers of the field.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
You should hold a first degree and Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline. Experience with synchrotron radiation and background in x-ray physics and/or high pressure techniques is highly desirable.
Your communication skills enable you to integrate a multidisciplinary and international research team.
