Field of Interest:astro-ph, cs, hep-ex
Experiments:Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI)
Deadline: 2018-04-20
Region: North America
Job description:
The High Energy Physics group at the University of Rochester is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate on the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). DESI is a next-generation spectroscopic survey designed to measure baryon acoustic oscillations and test alternative cosmological models. The instrument is in the latter stages of construction, and data taking will begin in 2019. The University of Rochester is involved in the commissioning of the DESI focal plane, the development of fast algorithms to test cosmological models, and the production of simulated data sets. Applicants with experience in particle physics, astrophysics, and data science are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will become involved in the activities of the group and will be expected to travel to the DESI site in Arizona to take shifts and help commission the telescope. The position will be based in Rochester and is funded for two years, with the possibility of extension.
For more information about this position, please contact Prof. Segev BenZvi (sybenzvi@pas.rochester.edu) and Prof. Regina Demina (regina@pas.rochester.edu).
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, including a 2 page description of research experience and interest, a list of publications to which the applicant has made direct contributions, and arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent via email to Ms. Connie Jones to this address:
connie@pas.rochester.edu
Subject: DESI postdoctoral search.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The position will remain open until filled. The University of Rochester has a strong commitment to diversity and actively encourages applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in higher education. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
