Job description:
Position as PhD Research Fellow in Cosmology available at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics.

The fellowship period is up to 4 years. The position entails a compulsory work load of 25% that consists of teaching and supervision duties and research assistance.

Starting date no later than 01.10.2018.

The Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics is heavily involved in both observational and theoretical/computational astrophysics. Observational material is collected from space-borne and ground-based observatories. In interaction with and parallel to the observational activity, there is a strong activity in theoretical and computational astrophysics. The Institute is actively engaged in a large number of international collaborative programs, e.g., through the Norwegian membership in ESA, the balloon-borne CMB polarization experiment Spider and the CO Mapping Array Pathfinder experiment COMAP at Owens Valley, California. Space missions with major participation from the Institute include Planck and Euclid within cosmology and extragalactic astrophysics. In theoretical and computational astrophysics, the Institute has built up strong groups within numerical modelling and within the use of modern computational statistics methods in data analysis.

For this positon, we are seeking a student to join the Cosmology group under the supervision of Dr. David Mota. The successful candidate will work on the topics related to Dark Energy, Dark Matter and Modified Gravity through high resolution hydrodynamic and N-body simulations of nonlinear cosmological structure formation. She/he will design, perform and post-process simulations to generate synthetic observations to test theoretical models against present and near future observational data. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to participate in the Euclid collaboration.
