Postdoctoral Research Assistant for the BESIII Experiment
Particle Physics, Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Road, Oxford
Grade 7: £31,604 – £38,833 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics. The full-time post is available for a fixed-term duration of 3 years with possibility of extension. The post is based in Oxford. Charm strong phase parameters can form crucial inputs for a variety of subsequent work, most notably that of CPV studies in beauty and charm decays. This project deals with the measurement of these parameters using data from the BESIII experiment. The successful candidate will analyse data from the BESIII and measure charm strong phase parameters in a variety of decay modes. They will contribute to the development of BESIII analysis software tools. They will collaborate with the potential users of the charm strong phase information to ensure optimal use. There is the potential to analyse LHCb upgrade data to determine gamma with inputs measured at BESIII. Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in heavy flavour physics. Previous experience of the BESIII experiment will be an advantage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, plan and execute research activities, and work in a team. The post is based in Oxford, with visits to IHEP when necessary. When based in Oxford, teaching duties of up to three hours per week during University term time may be required. Informal enquiries about this post may be made to: sneha.Malde@physics.ox.ac.uk. Only applications received promptly by 12.00 noon on 20 April 2018 can be considered. Please read the “Person Specification and Job Description” before preparing your application. You will be required to upload a curriculum vita, a description of research experience and interests and the names and addresses of three referees as part of your online application. In addition you should arrange for the three letters of reference to be sent to: sue.geddes@physics.ox.ac.uk by the closing date. Applications are acknowledged but not reference letters.
