Job description:
PhD positions at the Universities of Bonn, Siegen and FZ Jülich

PhD positions are available at HISKP, University of Bonn, at the University of Siegen and IKP, FZ Jülich within the framework of the project "Regional Doctoral Program in Theoretical and Experimental Particle Physics." This project unites the above-mentioned scientific institutions with the Tbilisi State University, Yerevan State University and Yerevan Physics Institute and aims at the implementation of structured doctoral programs in Georgia and Armenia. It is jointly supported by Volkswagen Foundation,  Shota Rustaveli Science Foundation (Georgia) and State Committee for Science (Armenia).

The applicants, which must have an MSc degree in Physics, must be either Georgian or Armenian citizens and should have obtained at least their Bachelor degree in these countries.

The theory group at the University of Bonn has a very strong expertise in many different areas of particle physics and nuclear physics, in particular, its present research interests are the use of the effective theories of the strong interactions in hadronic and nuclear physics, the study of phenomenological aspects of hadronic interactions by applying dispersion relations, lattice QCD and nuclear lattice simulations, as well as nuclear structure and reactions.

The theory group at the University of Siegen has a very strong expertise in effective theories and flavor physics, including tests of the beyond the Standard Model physics in the heavy quark sector, collider MonteCarlo simulations and multiloop calculations in perturbative QCD.

The research interests of the group at FZ Jülich lies mainly in the area of the experimental particle physics, namely, in the precision experiments with polarized proton and deuteron beams in storage rings. The members of this group play a prominent role in the spin physics projects pursued by the JEDI and ANKE international collaborations. The theory group at FZ Jülich consists of experts in the effective field theory, lattice simulations, particle phenomenology and nuclear physics.

In the application materials the choice of the host University/Research institution must be indicated. Applications will be accepted after February 15 until the positions are filled. The selection process will be carried out by the International Board, comprised of the members of the different nodes of the project, who will select one Georgian and one Armenian candidate.

The Application Materials (the English tranlation must be provided  for the certificates not written in English)

- A short cover letter

- A MSc certificate or equivalent

- The transcript of the grades

- CV, containing a short description of the research interests

- The applicants must provide the emails of two senior scientists, who are willing to write the reference letter for him/her

All application materials should be sent to the email: rdp_search@hiskp.uni-bonn.de

All informal inquiries can be directed to this mail or, personally, to:
