Recruitment of Assistant Professor (Physics)
Integrated Science Program(ISP)is the science program offered in English for international students in Hokkaido University, that is scheduled to be established in academic year 2017. This is organized by International Student Center, Office of International Affairs, Hokkaido University.
We seek a teaching fellow for physics courses in the ISP curriculum; the detail is described below.
1. Position
Assistant Professor (5 years position)

※Office will be located in Faculty of Science.
3. Field of Research
Theoretical Physics (particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, or condensed matter physics listed in http://phys.sci.hokudai.ac.jp/en/laboratory/lab-group.html)
4. Location
Sapporo,Japan
5. Duty
(1) Teaching approximately 6 unit-hours per week per semester in undergraduate courses. Offering General Education Courses and specialized subjects(Lectures and experiments)related to ISP in English.
(2) Conducting research in the area of expertise by collaborating with one of the theoretical research groups in Department of Physics listed in the above URL
(3) Other duties may include assisting with promotional activities and recruiting the international students by visiting foreign countries.
6. Application Criteria
(1) Possess PhD in related discipline from an accredited university at the time of appointment.
(2) Native or near-native ability in English (Japanese-proficiency is not required).
(3) Previous experience in teaching at the college level is highly desirable.
7. Basic Salary
The basic salary will be determined in accordance with the regulations of Hokkaido University, with consideration for qualifications, work experience, and achievement.
Moving allowances will also be paid.
Example of Basic Salary: In the case of an applicant who earned PhD within 5 years at the time of application submission Approximately 4,716,000-5,520,000 yen per year |
The salary will depend on the applicant’s achievements.
A benefits package (health insurance and social insurance) is included in the salary shown above.

c. Others: Affiliated Associations and their activities, contributions to society, awards, etc.
d. Summary of research achievements (about 500 words)
(3) Educational Achievements:
Achievements in teaching (previous experiences in lecturing, conducting experiments at the college level, or teaching to postgraduate students), and other educational achievements.
(4) One copy of each of 3 major papers.
(5) Research proposal upon appointment (about 500 words)
(6) Description of educational plan for teaching the general physics course (about 500 words)
(7) Two letters of recommendation
If necessary, candidates may be requested to provide additional documents.
