Job description:
Applications are invited for two PhD positions at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland.
The selected candidates will join the new mathematical physics group led by Joao Penedones and develop research on fundamental questions in the context of Quantum Field Theory, String Theory, Quantum Gravity or related topics. 

The Physics doctoral school at EPFL offers advanced courses and a stimulating environment with about 200 students.

The Institute of Theoretical Physics covers many research areas including field theory, high energy phenomenology, physics beyond the Standard Model, cosmology, supersymmetry, string theory, gauge/gravity duality and the conformal bootstrap.  The senior scientists of the high energy theory group are currently Roberto Contino, Joao Penedones, Riccardo Rattazzi, Sergei Sibiryakov and Mikhail Shaposhnikov. The group has strong scientific ties with nearby CERN.

The PhD positions are fully funded for four years with a gross annual salary around 50000 CHF. The starting date is flexible between Summer and Fall of 2016.


Entry requirements:
 
Master degree in Physics or Mathematics with strong background in Theoretical Physics (concluded before start date at EPFL).

- Personal statement of research interests (one A4 page maximum)
- Copy of official transcripts of diplomas and grades from all academic institutions of higher education listed in the CV (after and not including high-school)
