Job description:
The Theoretical Physics groups at the University of Liverpool invite applications for PhD studentships, starting 1 September 2018 or soon thereafter. We have 2 STFC funded studentships, which are available to home/EU students resident in the UK and can cover tuition fees and a maintenance grant for 3.5 years. Additionally, the Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for graduate teaching assistant (GTA) studentships leading to a PhD (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/mathematical-sciences/postgraduate/postgraduate-opportunities-in-mathematics/gta-phd-studentships/). They cover the tuition fee at the EU rate and a maintenance grant for 3.5 years.

The Theoretical Physics groups provide an internationally leading research and training environment for PhD students in the fields of particle physics phenomenology, cosmology, quantum field theory, lattice gauge theory, string theory and string phenomenology.

Background of applicants:

Prior background in theoretical particle physics would be an advantage.
The successful candidates should have or expect to have at least a 2.1 degree or equivalent in Physics and/or Mathematics.

Deadlines:

Applications will be considered until the positions are filled, however we encourage early applications. For the graduate teaching assistantships there is a deadline of February 15th.
