Description
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory seeks highly qualified candidates for an Associate Scientist position in the Technical Division SRF Department to work on design and testing of 3.9GHz SRF cavities and beam dynamics simulations for superconducting linacs. This position has equivalent seniority to university assistant professorships. The position will be for an initial appointment for 3 year term, which can be renewed for up to a total of six years. The further promotion towards a Scientist appointment will be based on progress made during Associate Scientist term. The successful applicant will be expected to take a leadership role in the 3.9GHz system design and qualification at Fermilab including beam dynamic studies, the design, development, validation and testing of cavities, couplers, auxiliaries.
Applicant will be also expected to take a leadership role in the accelerator design and beam physics simulations for superconducting linacs, including LCLS-II, PIP-II and ILC. This activity will include lattice design, study of beam performance, alignment tolerances and beam based alignment algorithms, failure analysis, wakefield generation, High Order Modes damping, etc. Applicant should demonstrate experience in using of modern simulation codes both for the cavity/coupler design and beam dynamic studies.
The applicant will also interact with other groups within the SRF department, Technical Division, Fermilab and other laboratories to ensure that 3.9GHz system is incorporated into all aspects of the machine design.
Fermilab has a strong and exciting SRF research program and the TD/SRF department is engaged in the design, construction and testing of cryomodules for the LCLS-II, PIP-II and ILC projects.
Additional information on the Fermilab SRF program can be found at http://www-td.fnal.gov/departments/srfdevelopment.html.
