Job description:

Applications are invited for an STFC-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position to join the Manchester Particle Theory group, which is part of the Lancaster, Manchester & Sheffield Consortium for Fundamental Physics.
The post will be available from September 2018 or earlier for a period of two years. The successful applicant should have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in particle physics or a related discipline and research interests which match those of the consortium in the area of BSM physics.

The Manchester particle theory group consists of six academics: Richard Battye, Fedor Bezrukov, Mrinal Dasgupta, Jeff Forshaw, Apostolos Pilaftsis and Mike Seymour, with Bezrukov and Pilaftsis leading the BSM and Particle Cosmology programme. The group is an integral part of the Manchester Particle Physics Research Group whose experimenters are members of the ATLAS, LHCb, DØ, MINOS, SuperNemo and IceCube experiments and performs R&D towards the next generation of neutrino experiments. The group Cosmology and BSM activities come mainly under the headings of Model Building and Higgs Physics, Supersymmetry, Neutrinos and Particle Cosmology, Inflation, Dark Matter, and Physics at the Intensity Frontier. Applicants are particularly sought who work on one or more of these areas, and the links between them.

A significant goal of the Consortium is to continue to raise the quality and originality of the science we do through broader and deeper collaboration between its member groups. This encourages the possibility to further extend the scientific contacts beyond the Manchester group.

Overall Purpose of the Job

The present position is focused on the area of Cosmology and BSM Physics, but there would also be opportunities to collaborate with staff in related area of QCD.
