The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2018.
We seek candidates with research interests at the intersection between particle/astroparticle physics and observational astronomy, who also have experience with instrumentation and/or detectors. Involvement with the LSST or similar surveys is preferred. UNM faculty in these disciplines work on a broad array of topics ranging from particle/astroparticle physics (including ATLAS, dark matter searches, gamma rays, neutrinos) to astronomy (galaxy evolution, AGNs, transients, and the epoch of reionization, using the LWA, VLA, and VLBA, among others). UNM seeks a candidate whose research experience and interests complement these areas.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field by date of appointment and Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their potential contribution to research, and to teaching physics and astronomy classes at all levels. UNM is interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
· Doctorate in physics, astronomy, or a related field by date of appointment (August 2018)
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Postdoc experience in physics, astronomy, or related areas 2. Demonstrated potential to develop a strong, well-funded research program at the intersection between particle/astroparticle physics and observational astronomy 3. Potential for teaching at all levels in Physics and Astronomy 4. Demonstrated research interests at the intersection between particle/astroparticle physics and observational astronomy 5. Experience with instrumentation and/or detectors 6. Experience working on the LSST or similar surveys 7. Commitment to contribute to the shared responsibilities of the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy 8. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
