The Department of Physics at the Arizona State University (https://physics.asu.edu/) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in Theoretical Materials Physics and Condensed Matter Physics with an anticipated start date of August 2018.
Arizona State University is seeking to grow a vibrant group of theorists. We are particularly interested in applicants who are developing new theoretical approaches in materials or condensed matter physics, broadly defined, who will develop cutting-edge methods and collaborate with many existing groups across campus (including, but not limited to, electronic structure, novel semiconductors, magnetic materials, new energy materials and low-dimensional materials). ASU has one of the most extensive arrays of experimental characterization facilities worldwide. Facilities include ASU’s high-performance computing, advanced materials synthesis, high-resolution electron microscopy, and compact x-ray free-electron laser.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally-funded research program, engage students through research and effective teaching, participate in service to the university and the profession, and build productive relationships with faculty across the ASU campus.
Qualifications include: a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in physical or mathematical sciences by start of appointment; demonstrated ability to establish a strong, independent, externally-funded research program; potential for leadership in their subfield; and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching.
Desired qualifications include: a strong record of research accomplishments; evidence of successful postdoctoral experience; a research focus in theory-experiment synergy; and demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations.
