Field of Interest:physics, cond-mat
Deadline: 2017-12-01
Region: North America
Job description:
Postdoctoral applications are currently being accepted by the Condensed Matter Theory Center (CMTC) at the University of Maryland, Department of Physics.
To apply, upload your CV, research statement, publication list, and have at least 3 letters of reference submitted on your behalf. We anticipate hiring 1-4 new CMTC postdocs in 2018.
We are interested in all aspects of quantum condensed matter theory (including cold atom physics), but there is particular current interest in the following topics (although applications showing other interests will still be considered): solid state quantum computation using semiconductors and/or superconductors, spin qubits and spin decoherence, Dirac and Weyl systems, topological quantum matter, topological quantum computation, strongly correlated phenomena, semiconductor quantum dots in GaAs and Si, exotic superconductivity, machine learning of quantum matter, emergent Majorana fermions in solid state materials and the physics of non-Abelian anyons, quantum many-body aspects of cold atoms and molecules, many-body localization, tensor networks and quantum entanglement, symmetry-protected topological phaes, and physics of two dimensional systems including quantum Hall effects.
CMTC is a theory center of 7 professorial faculty members, 10-20 postdoctoral fellows, 10-15 graduate students, and some occasional visitors. CMTC is engaged in all aspects of quantum condensed matter theory. CMTC is closely connected to JQI at Maryland with the CMTC Faculty members involved in JQI activities. The applicants should feel free to mention the names of specific CMTC faculty members they may be interested in working with, but it is not essential. To get some idea about the breadth of CMTC research interests, please visit http://www.physics.umd.edu/cmtc/.
Applications should be received by December 1, 2017 for full consideration.
To be considered for the CMTC Postdoctoral Fellowship (even the ones which will be joint with JQI), you must apply for a CMTC Fellowship which is considered separately from the JQI Fellowship.
The University of Maryland, College Park, actively subscribes to a policy of equal employment opportunity, and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant because of race, age, sex, color, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry or national origin, marital status, genetic information, or political affiliation. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply. .
