FACULTY POSITION
THEORETICAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY
WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State University (WSU) seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in theoretical high-energy nuclear physics. The appointment will begin as a cooperative fellowship with the RIKEN BNL Research Center (RBRC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and the Beam Energy Scan Theory (BEST) Topical Collaboration in Nuclear Theory, for a period of up to five years. During this period, the fellow will spend about half of his/her time at WSU and the remaining time at the RBRC in BNL. The appointment will start August 2018 and include a competitive start-up package.

Candidates should have a strong background in QCD matter and relativistic heavy-ion physics. We seek an individual who will be leader in the LHC era and beyond. The successful candidate will maintain an active, externally funded research program, and be committed to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. A Ph.D. degree or equivalent is required and postdoctoral experience is important.

This position is part of a new University-wide initiative to enhance efforts in computer science and computationally intensive domain sciences. Experience in high performance computing and/or data science is preferred.

Our department (http://www.clas.wayne.edu/physics/) consists of 28 faculty members with active research programs in relativistic heavy-ion physics (STAR, ALICE and theory), particle physics (CMS, Belle and theory), astrophysics, condensed matter and materials physics, biophysics, and atomic physics.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and statements of research and teaching interests as separate PDF attachments in a single email to ntheory17@physics.wayne.edu; or by regular mail to:

Chair, Theoretical Nuclear Physics Search Committee
Department of Physics and Astronomy,
