Job description:
We are offering PhD project(s) to begin in Autumn 2017 which are based in the particle theory group at the University of Edinburgh, which is part of the Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics. These specific projects will involve close collaboration with an industrial partner and a 6-month industry placement, but the projects themselves are motivated by current research in the particle theory group. For example, scaling codes for HPC applications and fast networks motivated by lattice QCD or improving PDF determination using new machine learning techniques.
Funding is available for 48 months (including the 6-month placement) and covers fees at the Home/EU rate and a full stipend. We potentially have positions from different funding sources with different deadlines, so we encourage applications as quickly as possible. These can be made via the links on the University website. Please note we do not require a full research proposal at this stage; a brief indication of your interests is helpful.
