Job description:
The School of Physics and Astronomy at Queen Mary University of London is seeking to appoint a new Lecturer in Experimental Particle Physics within the Particle Physics Research Centre (PPRC).
The successful candidate will be expected to make major contributions to the ATLAS upgrade ITk group. They will also have already shown outstanding research achievements or potential, consistent with their current career position, and be experienced in working in forefront international particle physics collaborations. The QMUL group has responsibilities on the strip barrel detector and the pixel end-cap and the new appointment is expected to play a leading role in one or both of these subsystems and may also contribute to data analysis.
The main current activities of the PPRC are the operation and data analysis of the ATLAS, ICECUBE, MoEDAL, SNO+ and T2K, and preparations for Hyper-Kamiokande and ATLAS tracker and trigger upgrades.
The candidate will also contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching at undergraduate/graduate level, scholarship and administration within the School. Potential and/or ability to communicate science to non-specialist audiences and potential students in outreach work is expected. Potential or proven ability to secure research funding would be an advantage.
This position will provide the successful candidate with an exceptional opportunity to become part of a highly active Research Centre focused on fertile and vibrant areas of experimental particle physics. The lectureship is full-time and permanent. The successful applicant is expected to start no later than 1st March 2018. The salary range would be from £40,182 to £50,030 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
