Field of Interest:astro-ph
Experiments:AUGER, CTA
Deadline: 2017-07-07
Region: Europe
Job description:
The Center for Astrophysics and Cosmology at the University of Nova Gorica has one opening for a PhD student position, with starting date in October 2017. The successful candidate will work on the data analysis of the Pierre Auger Observatory, under the supervision of Dr. Serguei Vorobiov.
The activities of the host laboratory are focused on the studies of cosmic rays, transient astrophysical phenomena, dark matter and possible mechanisms responsible for the matter – anti-matter asymmetry in the Universe. The Center actively participates in several large experimental collaborations, such as the Pierre Auger, Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) and Fermi LAT collaborations. It tightly cooperates with several nearby institutions with strong expertise in astroparticle physics such as the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana and SISSA, INFN, and ICTP in Trieste.
The student will benefit from this multi-messenger, multi-wavelength character of the research conducted in the host laboratory. In particular, possible PhD study topics will include synergies with forthcoming CTA Observatory.
Interested candidates should send their CV and short summary of research interests to sergey.vorobyev@ung.si. They should also arrange for two reference letters to be sent to the same address. The position will be open until filled, for full consideration please contact us before July 7th. Formal requirements to the candidates by the funding Slovenian Research Agency can be found at the address
