Job description:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate to work on an experiment sensitive to physics that might explain the mysterious matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe.
The experiment will search for parity- and time-reversal violating interactions (nuclear EDM) in 205Tl in a TlF molecular beam, induced by particles and forces with origins beyond the Standard Model. The researcher will work with D. Kawall at UMass Amherst, and collaborators at Columbia and Yale. on all aspects of the design, construction, operation, and analysis of the experiment, with initial emphasis on the nuclear spin precession region comprising high voltage electrodes, magnetic shielding, and RF coils for quantum state manipulation.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in experimental physics, with experience in precision measurements in atomic, molecular, nuclear, or particle physics preferred. Occasional travel to Yale University will be required.
Please submit a current CV, and a 1-2 page description of research experience and interests and contact info for three professional references. Review of applications will begin Jun 1 2017. The nominal start date is July 1, 2017. The position will remain open until filled.
The position is for one year initially, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years.
