Field of Interest:astro-ph, gr-qc
Deadline: 2017-05-05
Region: Europe
Job description:
Applications are invited to apply for the general postdoctoral position programe by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Our Gravitation and Cosmology group will be able to support the application of one single researcher. Positions are expected to begin in late 2017.
The successful researcher will be attached to the Research Group IT956-16 of the Basque Government with José M.M. Senovilla as principal investigator, and will become a member of the Department of Theoretical Physics and History of Science at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Bilbao, Spain.
Applicants are required to hold a PhD at the application deadline, 19th of May, but the doctoral degree must not date back further than 3 years from the deadline. In addition, the candidate must not have held any prior postdoctoral position. Non EU citizens will also have to be holders of a prior administrative permit to work in Spain.
Our group includes David Brizuela, Tom Broadhurst, Alex Feinstein, Inaki Garay, Jesus Ibáñez, Ruth Lazkoz, José M M Senovilla, and Raül Vera as well as postdocs Mariam Bouhmadi-Lopez, Alfonso García-Parrado, Iván de Martino, and several graduate students. Some members of the group belong to the European Network (COST Action) CANTATA, led by Dr. Lazkoz. The group also benefits from close ties and permanent collaboration with the Early Universe group, also attached to the same Department, including Igor Bandos, José Juan Blanco-Pillado, Sugumi Kanno and Jon Urrestilla.
Our lines of research cover many theoretical and observational aspects of Cosmology and Gravitation such as cosmological observational tests, alternative theories of gravity, gravitational lensing and formation of galaxy (clusters), gravitational waves and panoramic surveys with space telescopes, astrophysical compact objects, loop quantum gravity, quantum cosmology, dark energy and dark matter, and Lorentzian geometry.
The appointment will be for a period of 12 months, with a possible extension of 12 more if some basic publication objectives are met as required by the research authorities in the university. The Department offers teaching opportunities to the successful candidate.
Interested candidates should send a CV, statement of research interests and publication list, and arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be submitted to: ruth.lazkoz@ehu.eus
All applications received before May 5th, 2017, will be considered. The selected candidate will be contacted for a joint preparation of the application.
