Job description:
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor starting August 2017. This is a full-time, nine-month appointment. The Department seeks physicists with research interests and expertise in materials science, along with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. Materials scientists and physicists with an additional interest in biophysics, bio-materials, and biotechnology are especially encouraged to apply, as are applicants who are positioned to make use of existing film growth and characterization equipment such as ALD, MBE, Sputtering, MOCVD, and PL systems.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Teach physics to both undergraduate and graduate students
• Establish a research laboratory in materials science and involve both graduate and undergraduate students in basic and/or applied research
• Publish results of original research and procure external funding for research projects
• Enhance current curriculum and develop/implement new curriculum
• Participate in outreach, recruitment, and service activities for the department, college, university, and community
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrate an aptitude for teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students
• Demonstrate ability or potential to develop a research program in materials science which enhances the existing research strengths of the University or nearby institutions and involves both graduate and undergraduate students
• Able to teach traditional physics curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels effectively and enthusiastically, making use of best pedagogical practice
• Committed to student success.
• Demonstrate a spirit of collegiality and willingness to contribute to the departmental, college, and university demands of faculty governance and to community outreach.
Required Education and/or Experience
Terminal degree in Physics, Materials Science, or closely related field.
