Job description:
The experimental particle physics group at UC Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral research position to work on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, starting approximately March 2017.
 
The UCI group consists of Profs. Andrew Lankford, Anyes Taffard and Daniel Whiteson. The group is actively involved in the Muon systems and Trigger and Data Acquisition, and has a strong background in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model.
 
The successful applicant will work primarily with Prof Anyes Taffard. The researcher is expected to make significant personal contributions to the ATLAS physics analyses as well as the muon upgrades for Phase-I (New Small Wheel) and the High-Luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC) to introduce at Level-0 a muon trigger using the Monitoring Drift Chambers (MDT).
 
The applicant should have, or be about to gain, a Ph.D. in particle physics, and is expected to have experience from at least two years of active participation in a leading international particle physics experiment.  The applicant should have expertise in data analysis techniques and software systems used in high-energy physics as well as Unix operating systems, C++ programming language and Python. Experiences in muon chambers, tracking, trigger and data acquisition, or FPGA programing and simulation are desirable.
