Description
SRF Program in Technical Division is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on various state-of-the-art problems in science and technology of superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities for particle acceleration.

Positions are for an initial period of up to three (3) years, with the potential for extension considered on a yearly basis thereafter.

Respects, understands and values individual differences that embody the principles of diversity.

Abide by all environment, safety, and health regulations.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
·         Exploration of various limiting factors of cavity performance (quench, residual resistance, BCS resistance).
·         Plasma processing for in situ suppressing of field emission in cryomodules.
·         Extending nitrogen doping technique to other relevant frequency, temperature, and field domains.

Qualifications
  • Good understanding of superconductivity under microwave exposure.
  • Experience with and understanding of SRF cavity measurement techniques including
    • Familiarity with and ability to recognize various loss mechanisms during measurements
    • BCS/residual surface resistance decomposition at all rf fields.
    • Extracting penetration depth material properties (electron mean free path, critical temperature, coherence length etc) from measurements/BCS fits.
  • Thorough understanding of the material structure of niobium within the penetration depth and state-of-the-art methods of its modification/engineering and characterization.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Quantum Design PPMS system and its ACSM measurement option
  • Familiarity with SIMS or TOF-SIMS
  • Experience with data analysis environments, e.g. Mathematica, OriginPro.

Application Instructions
Interested candidates should submit:

1) Curriculum vitae,
2) Statement of Research Interests,
3) List of selected publications, and
4) at least Three Letters of Reference (please send letters to Dr. Anna Grassellino at annag@fnal.gov)

Applicants should submit their material as soon as possible, as selection of candidates for interviews will begin immediately and will continue until all positions are filled.
