About Us
SNOLAB is a unique world-class international facility for deep underground scientific research.
Located 2km underground in the Vale Creighton mine, near Sudbury, Ontario, SNOLAB hosts a
suite of surface facilities and laboratories including a 5000m2 clean room underground. The science programme at SNOLAB is primarily focussed on subatomic and astroparticle physics, specifically the search for dark matter and neutrino studies.
The Position
SNOLAB is filling at a minimum one indeterminate position and an undefined number of term positions. As a Research Scientist, you will be engaged in the development, operation and data analysis of experiments within the SNOLAB programme. The incumbent will directly contribute to, and collaborate with other scientists in, the development of current and future experiments and provide support to the SNOLAB scientific community through service work and collaboration engagement.
As appropriate, the position will apply experimental and simulation techniques to further the SNOLAB programme and will report experimental results by writing research papers, reports, reviews and summaries and by presenting information at scientific conferences and workshops.
The position will support the facility with service to SNOLAB through technical work or management and, as required, will supervise a research team which may include technicians, support staff, research students, and post-doctoral fellows;
Criteria
Education:
A relevant postgraduate degree (PhD).
Experience:
• Post-doctoral research and/or practical research/laboratory work experience;
• Post-doctoral experience applying experimental physics / astro-particle physics techniques;
• Previous experience working with one of the current or future SNOLAB projects will be viewed as an asset;
• Experience using numerical and statistical analysis approaches;
• Experience developing reports and publications, and presenting results to diverse audiences.
• Experience managing delivery of projects and research teams within a laboratory environment will be viewed as an asset.
Salary Range
Salary will be determined by qualifications and experience and includes an attractive benefits package. Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with SNOLAB policies. To meet operational needs, shift work may be required.
