About Us
SNOLAB is a unique world-class international facility for deep underground scientific research. Located 2km underground in the Vale Creighton mine, near Sudbury, Ontario, SNOLAB hosts a suite of surface facilities and laboratories including a 5000m2 clean room underground. The science programme at SNOLAB is primarily focussed on subatomic and astroparticle physics, specifically the search for dark matter and neutrino studies.
The vision of SNOLAB is to be the partner of choice for underground physics, providing world- class infrastructure and thereby delivering world-class science. To realize this vision our mission is to enable, spearhead, catalyze and promote underground science, whilst inspiring both the public and future professionals in the field. To deliver the mission, and place SNOLAB in a position to realize the long-term vision, four goals have been identified, with associated objectives and critical success factors: Enable and spearhead world-class underground science; Develop and maintain world-class facilities and infrastructure; Educate, inspire and innovate; and, Develop quality delivery systems of internationally recognized standard.
The Position
SNOLAB is governed by a council of five universities, this includes Laurentian University, also located in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a SNOLAB position and will be located at the SNOLAB facility.
The Associate Director, Programme Integration & Operations supports the SNOLAB Director in the implementation of the Science Program. The Associate Director is responsible for developing, maintaining and coordinating the facility resources to ensure delivery of the SNOLAB scientific programme.
Specifically, the position will provide senior management leadership in delivering the SNOLAB Strategic Plan, attaining high quality SNOLAB goals and objectives, and promoting a safe working environment for all staff and users. The incumbent will have overall responsibility of programme integration and facility-related aspects of the SNOLAB Facility Business Plan.
In addition, the incumbent will lead the formation and implementation of strategies to ensure required SNOLAB facility resources are available for the development, deployment and operation of experiments. In collaboration with the Associate Director, Programme Development and Science, the incumbent will facilitate the coordination of site research activities.
Criteria
The successful candidate will be internationally recognized for scientific excellence and have a demonstrated track record of scientific achievement in one or more areas of research in the SNOLAB scientific programme, including a Ph.D. in a relevant field.
In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in a leadership role at a medium scale laboratory or in the delivery of science projects. The incumbent will also have experience in the setting of goals, meeting objectives and providing oversight to research programs. The candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to think strategically, including creating a compelling vision and associated strategy for a complex research organization. Additionally, their experience will allow them to implement strategy, align staff and resources to achieve goals and to build and direct diverse, multi-discipline groups.
