Job description:
The experimental high-energy physics group at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, invites applications for one or more masters/PhD positions in experimental particle physics on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The anticipated start date is early 2017.
Due the funding agency regulations, only South African nationals, or other African nationals already in South Africa can only be considered.
For masters applicants, an honours degree, and for PhD applicants, a masters degree is required, in particle physics or in related areas. Knowledge of Linux/C++/Python will be useful, although not mandatory.

Witwatersrand is a member institute collaborating Tile Calorimeter, contributing to maintenance, operations and upgrade, with emphasis on high-throughput electronics and radiation studies. The group contributes to searches using the Higgs boson, and has strong interest in jet substructure techniques, Standard Model measurements and Monte Carlo event generators.
