The Max Planck Institut für Kernphysik is one of about 80 research institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science e.V. (MPG). The MPG is an independent, non-profit research organization which seeks to promote basic research in the service of the general public.
The division of particle physics and high energy astrophysics (division Hofmann/Hinton) at the Max- Planck-Institut für Kernphysik in Heidelberg, (Germany) offers
PhD student position
at the GERDA group at MPIK.
GERDA searches for neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge. MPIK is a leading group of the experiment with various hardware responsibilities shared between two divisions and is strongly involved in the data analysis. The experiment is currently operating a second phase of data taking and preparing a large upgrade program.
Your Profile/Requirements:
Prerequisite is a Master degree in experimental astro-particle physics or related fields like particle or nuclear physics
Some knowledge in computing and data analysis and/or hardware experience.
Our data analysis is based on C, C++, ROOT and Geant4 simulations
We expect a high level of motivation. The successful candidates will contribute to the ongoing GERDA data analysis and to hardware developments for the future extension of the project.
The positions will be filled at the earliest convenience.
The contract period is for 3 years with the possibility of extension. The salary will be paid according to the collective agreement for civil service employees (TVöD).
