King’s College London announces a new lectureship position in the Theoretical Particle Physics and Cosmology (TPPC) Group in its Physics Department. We seek candidates whose research is in areas of theoretical physics related to particle physics and cosmology that fall within the scope of the TPPC Group, such as collider physics, gravitational physics, the building and testing of theories beyond the Standard Model, dark matter, probes of general relativity and observational cosmology.
The King’s TPPC Group (Head: Prof. John Ellis FRS, Clerk Maxwell Professor of Theoretical Physics; Co-Head Prof. Nick Mavromatos) is one of the larger UK research groups in the field, and currently includes 6 other staff members (Bobby Acharya, Jean Alexandre, Malcolm Fairbairn, Eugene Lim, Mairi Sakellariadou and Sarben Sarkar), 4 postdocs and 15 students. With funding from the UK SFTC, its main focus is on proposing and testing new models of particle physics and cosmology beyond their Standard Models, including theories such as supersymmetry and strings, as well as the study of dark matter, quantum aspects of space-time and modified gravity models. Tests of these ideas include collider experiments, predictions of particle-physics models for indirect and direct dark matter searches, gravitational waves and the particle physics of the early universe ranging from inflation to theoretical models of quantum gravity and numerical relativity. Members of the group participate in the ATLAS and MoEDAL experiments at CERN's LHC, as well as in CTA, EuCLID and the LIGO scientific collaboration.
