Job description:
The experimental high-energy physics group at Kansas State University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (Post Doc) position on the MicroBooNE experiment at Fermilab. The KSU group (Tim Bolton and Glenn Horton-Smith) has a strong background in neutrino physics and is very active in developing software and detector control systems for MicroBooNE, and related liquid argon TPC experiments, and are heavily involved in developing the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE).
The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in physics analysis for the MicroBooNE and ProtoDUNE experiments, as well as development, commissioning, and analysis of the ProtoDUNE TPC.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be based primarily at Fermi National Accelerator Lab (FNAL), except for a period of several months at CERN for ProtoDUNE commissioning, and occasional travel for meetings and conferences.
Candidates for this position are required to have a Ph.D. and research experience in experimental particle physics. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: event reconstruction, monitoring and control systems, high voltage systems, or neutrino experiments. The successful candidate should also demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring of graduate students and to serving a diverse population.
The appointment will be a term appointment. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
Screening of applications will begin on September 1, 2016 and continue until the position is filled.
