Job description:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in High Energy Physics (HEP) to start in August 2017. The primary focus of the Nebraska HEP group is on the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The group has significant responsibilities and expertise in the construction of silicon pixel detectors and in software and computing for the experiment, and has strong participation in a variety of physics analyses. In addition, members of the group participate in cosmic ray experiments, including the nationally-recognized Cosmic Ray Observatory Project (CROP), an educational program for Nebraska high-school students.

Applicants for the Assistant Professor position will be expected to play a leadership role in the CMS Experiment. The selected candidate will have an excellent opportunity to direct the production of modules for the forward pixel detector that is part of the High Luminosity LHC upgrade program, taking advantage of existing infrastructure and expertise at UNL.
