Experimental Particle Physics
Postdoc – BABAR Experiment with University of Victoria
Field of Interest: hep-ex
Experiment: SLAC-‐PEP2-‐BABAR (SLAC)
Deadline: 2015-08-1
Region: North America

Job description:
Applications are invited for a three-year Postdoctoral Fellow position to work on the analysis of data
collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC e+e- B-factory. The appointment will be with the University
of Victoria particle physics group. The successful applicant will work closely with other members of the
BABAR collaboration and will lead the effort to complete a precision measurement of the ratio of the initial-state-radiation cross sections σ(e+e- → γISR π+π−)/σ( e+e- → γISR μ+μ−) and to determine the contribution to the muon g-2 hadronic vacuum polarization correction obtainable from a precise measurement of the π+π−final state. BABAR has published this ratio using the first half of its dataset. This work will complete the
analysis of the second half of the data using an upgraded muon detection system and will produce a
combined result on the muon g-2 hadronic vacuum polarization correction from BABAR.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in experimental particle physics with extensive experience in
particle physics data analysis, object oriented programming and computing as well as a demonstrated
capability of performing per-mil level precision measurements. The position will be based at the University
of Victoria and will involve travel to SLAC. The starting date will be negotiated with the successful
candidate.

Interested candidates should submit by 1 August 2015 a curriculum vita, a brief description of research
interests and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent to:
