Job description:
 
A postdoctoral researcher or more senior is sought for a systems neuroscience project in the Leifer Lab investigating how a nervous system's structure informs or constrains neural function in the nematode C. elegans. The project will involve sophisticated transgenics and optical imaging. The Leifer Lab is affiliated with Princeton University's Department of Physics and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. 
 
A Ph.D. in molecular biology, neuroscience, genetics or related field is required.  Quantitative and mathematical fluency will also be critical. In particularly, someone is sought who is comfortable applying cutting edge genetic techniques in a neuroscience context as part of a large multipart quantitative scientific investigation.
 
Ideal attributes are:
-Talented at the bench with a history of performing difficult molecular or genetic manipulations
-Talented troubleshooter of complicated molecular biology protocols
-Prior exposure to neuroscience and/or C. elegans research
-Experience carrying complex multi-part scientific investigations through to completion and publication
-Experience performing fluorescence microscopy and working with genetically encoded fluorescent proteins
-Comfortable learning new topics independently via the literature in the areas of gene-editing, C. elegans neuroscience, optical indicators
-Comfortable using mathematical concepts from linear algebra and statistics
-Comfortable coding in at least one programming language, and prior exposure to Matlab.
-Creative thinker
-Ability to mentor others
-Someone who is exquisitely organized, detailed-oriented and self-motivated
-Excellent time management skills
-Able to work well in a team, but also able to work independently
-Clear communicator
