Postdoctoral Research Associate position
 
 
Post-doc is sought for whole-brain neural imaging project in moving animals in the Leifer Laboratory at Princeton University's Department of Physics and Princeton Neuroscience Institute. The Leifer Lab develops novel optical techniques for probing neural dynamics that drive behavior in the nematode C. elegans.
 
A background in experimental physics, optics, computer science, electrical engineering or neuroscience with expertise building and using custom scientific instruments for precision measurements. In particular, someone is sought who is comfortable mixing custom optical and electronics hardware and custom software. 
 
Ideal attributes are:
-Talented experimentalist with a history of performing difficult measurements
-Talented troubleshooter of hardware and software
-Experience with fluorescence microscopy and fundamentals of microscope design
-Fluency in at least one programming language, and prior exposure to Matlab, LabView and C.
-Able and willing to dive into large code-bases
-Experience with digital signal processing and image processing
-Comfortable learning new topics independently via the literature in the areas of computer vision, machine learning, optics or electronics
-Interested in neuroscience and/or life sciences, although prior experience in these areas is not strictly necessary
-Willing to balance competing demands for rapid instrument design and troubleshooting with the need to design tools that are sustainable, maintainable and user-friendly
-Ability to mentor others
-Someone who is organized, self-motivated
-Able to work well in a team, but also able to work independently
-Clear communicator
