Job description:

The group ANTARES/KM3NeT at IFIC (Valencia, Spain) offers a 4-year Ph.D. fellowship (FPI Program) to work in the experiment ORCA-KM3NeT (http://km3net.org) to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy.

IFIC (Instituto de Fisica Corpuscular, http://webific.ific.uv.es/web/en) is the largest particle physics research center in Spain and has been recently recognized by the Program "Severo Ochoa Centers of Excellence".

The ANTARES-KM3NeT group at IFIC has a long experience in both experiments, located in the Mediterranean Sea. ANTARES has successfully shown the feasibility of the undersea water Cherenkov technique with a rich harvest of scientific results. KM3NeT is being deployed and will mean a tremendous step forward in neutrino astronomy. The main goal of the ORCA-KM3NeT is the determination of the neutrino mass hierarchy, a most relevant question in particle physics today and for which ORCA-KM3NeT has an important edge to be the first experiment in performing such a measurement.

The successful candidate is expected to join the group by the end of 2016 or beginning 2017 and should have finished his/her master studies before that time. Excellent academic record, high motivation and good computing skills are required.
