Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:FNAL-E-0989, DUNE, FNAL-T-1034
Deadline: 2016-08-01
Region: North America
Job description:
The Elementary Particle Physics group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Michigan State University is seeking qualified applicants for a postdoctoral position to join ongoing experiments in neutrino interactions and oscillations. In addition, MSU continues its exploration of the Liquid Argon TPC (LArTPC) technology for neutrino experiments and in searches for proton decay.
The successful candidate can take an active role in data analysis of the NOvA experiment, which is completing a 2-yr neutrino data-set improving its constraints on the neutrino mass hierarchy and CP-violation, and with plans for anti-neutrino data in the near future. In addition, a successful candidate will participate in the preparation of cold-electronics (CE) for protoDUNE, a 500-ton active mass LArTPC prototype for DUNE, scheduled to install and run at CERN in 2017-18. Other opportunities for research using this technology are available.
Applications will be considered from individuals with a PhD in physics or a related field, with preference given to those with strong backgrounds in particle physics. Proficiency in C++ and similar computer languages is essential and a desire to work with CE for a next-generation neutrino experiment is preferred. Interested individuals should submit at least 3 letters of recommendation, a CV, and a statement of research background and interests through the MSU hiring website: https://jobs.msu.edu referencing position 3568.
Selection of candidates will commence July 7, 2016, and will continue until the position is filled, with a start date of August 1st, 2016 or later as mutually agreed upon.
MSU is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. MSU is committed to achieving excellence through cultural diversity. The university actively encourages applications and/or nominations of women, persons of color, veterans and persons with disabilities.
