RESPONSIBILITIES
Applications are invited for a Research Associate position at Northern Illinois University (NIU) for technical work on the DUNE and Mu2e experiments. The successful candidate will play a key supportive role in advancing NIU’s involvement in the research and development of the Cosmic Ray Veto (CRV) detector for the Mu2e experiment and the Photon Detection System (PDS) for the DUNE experiment. The position is offered for a period of one year with possible extensions contingent upon continued funding.
Specific Responsibilities:
Setup and operation of test stand for characterization, qualification and commissioning of photosensors at room and cryogenic temperatures. Implementation of quality assurance and quality control for photosensors. Aiding in the design and optimization of optical assemblies involving scintillating and wavelength shifting material.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Ph. D. in High Energy Particle Physics with 2 years experience with HEP detectors
Or
MS in Physics with 4 years experience with HEP detectors
Or
BS in Physics with 6 years experience with HEP detectors
PREFERRED SKILLS
Extensive hardware experience with scintillator-photomultiplier (especially solid-state) particle physics detectors and associated front-end waveform digitizer electronics.
Expertise at putting together test setups using bench and crate based electronics and trigger logic.
Familiarity with using mechanical drawing and electrical schematics.
Conversant with control software like LabView and analysis tools like ROOT.
