Experiments:CERN-LHC-ATLAS
Deadline: 2016-06-17
Region: Europe
Job description:
The UCL High Energy Physics group is offering a PhD studentship on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, starting September 2016. Since the start of Run 2, the LHC is running at a record 13 TeV collision energy, and this is an exciting time to be involved in research at the energy frontier.
Our physics interests centre on investigating further the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking, including studies of the recently discovered Higgs boson and vector boson scattering, searching for physics beyond the Standard Model as well as key Standard Model measurements. We are also involved in the high-level trigger, the development and validation of Monte Carlo generators, and the online event display.
The studentship covers the duration of the PhD, including a tax-free bursary (this was £15,726 in 2013/4, inclusive of London allowance) and studentship fees, for up to 3.5 years. Additional financial support is provided to cover short-term and long-term travel.
The position is open to UK and all EU Nationals, and non-EU nationals who have been residing in the UK for at least 3-years (though not for the purposes of higher education). Applicants should hold (or be about to receive) a degree in physics.
