Job description:
The Instituto de Física Corpuscular IFIC– Severo Ochoa Excellence Centre, is a joint research institute of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Valencia. It is the largest particle physics center in Spain and covers both experimental and theoretical activities in Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Astroparticle and Neutrino Physics, Medical Physics and e-Science-GRID computing. It is involved in major particle and nuclear physics projects like ATLAS, LHCb, LCC, ANTARES-KM3NeT, NEXT, T2K, AGATA, and nTOF. The IFIC also hosts very strong theoretical groups.

LHCb is a dedicated heavy flavor physics experiment at the LHC whose main goal is to search for indirect evidence of new physics in CP violation and rare decays of heavy (beauty and charm) hadrons. The IFIC team is engaged in the analysis of the physics data and, the operation of the electromagnetic calorimeter and on the upgrade of the downstream tracker detector (the so-called Scintillating Fibre Tracker, SciFi), expected in 2019 during the long shutdown 2 of the LHC.

The LHCb group at IFIC has a long-standing tradition in experimental flavor physics through the participation in the BaBar experiment, with expertise in a wide range of physics, including CP and T violation in B decays, charm mixing and CP violation and semileptonic D decays. The team joined the LHCb collaboration in 2013 and is playing at present a leading role in radiative B decays. It is also getting involved in other polarization measurements from heavy baryon decays.

The successful applicant is expected to play an active role in data analysis activities, contribute to the software of the SciFi project for the LHCb upgrade, and participate to the LHCb detector operations.

Further information about the institute and their research interests can be obtained through the website http://ific.uv.es

The appointment is for two years with expected starting date in Autumn 2016. This position is funded by the Severo Ochoa Excellence Grant. Applicants are expected to have a competitive research track record in experimental particle physics, and a strong commitment to pursue forefront research lines. Researchers at an early stage of their career with no nationality restriction are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, including a list of publications, a brief statement of research interest, and also arrange for two reference letters. IFIC is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from women and minorities. Applications should be sent electronically through AcademicJobsOnline at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/7191

Application deadline: June 19, 2016
